Welcome to  Ohio Lions 13 OH 1

February Update:

It’s cold, and it’s supposed to be since it is February. However, it is hot in Lions Central. We have two or three things going on that need to be brought to your attention. First of all, our “Walk a Mile” District Project is nearing the goal of $20,000 directed toward pediatric cancer research, treatment and family support. If your club hasn’t donated to this campaign, we hope you will do so in the near future. 19 of our 49 clubs have made donations. If the other thirty clubs donate at least $100 (we are requesting $10 per member) in the next two months, we will reach our goal by convention time. Clubs who have donated were listed in the January and December Updates with the addition of Upper Scioto Valley and Arlington in the past fortnight. Thank you so much. I am trying to visit the last eight clubs on my list for their annual “how are you” by mid-April. It has been great seeing Lions across the District back in action after a difficult Covid hiatus. One area in which Covid took a large toll was membership as our new member numbers were down over 50% We have rebounded the last two years, especially last year, but we need to increase our efforts in that respect. I will be offering two strategies for membership growth at our March 5 Cabinet Meeting in Waynesfield. Stay posted. Look for action on the zone meeting front. Zone 5 had an excellent meeting in Kalida on January 26 despite the nasty weather. Zones 8-9 are meeting in West Liberty at the UCC at 212 W. Newell St at 6:30 on March 6. Lasagna for $12 is on the menu. PDG Don is putting together a zone meeting for zone 7. Look for announcements on that. Convention announcements and registration materials are on the website now. They should have been emailed to your club president and secretary as well. Check them out and make plans to attend all or at least some of the activities. Meetings, the afternoon activity, and no meals is a bargain at $10. Friday night is fun and informative, the luncheon has been well-accepted with Peace Poster recognition, and the Grand Banquet is a great opportunity to see all those honored for their individual and club service during the year. Finally, a great service opportunity for September, yes September, is posted on the website under the title, Pilot Dog Alumni Association Convention. Check it out.

Stay warm physically and hot Lionswise in the coming months,

DG Dave

DG Dave and 1VDG Deb Crawford delivered a check for $6000 to the Ebeid Children's Oncology/Hematology Unit of the ProMedica Hospital in Toledo, Ohio on Friday, September 24th.  The donation, the result of a Community Impact Grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, will be used to purchase 55" TV screens for the six infusion rooms on the oncology floor.  Ebeid deals with around 75 pediatric cancer patients annually, many of which are dealing with prolonged stays to assure recovery from sickle cell anemia issues.  Chemotherapy often also requires extended treatments.  Community Impact Grants are one way donations going out of our district are returned in part to us.  OH1 has been an excellent supporter of LCIF which has donated over $2 Billion to disaster relief and other charitable causes since 1968.
